Drew Geiger serves as Horizon’s Chief Investment Officer and is one of the company’s Managing Partners. Since joining Horizon in 2014, Drew has contributed significantly to the growth of Horizon’s assets under management, increasing in value from $900 million to more than $2.75 billion over his tenure. Starting his journey at Horizon as an Asset Manager, Drew played a pivotal role in expanding the Asset Management department, ultimately growing into the role of Vice President of Asset Management and, further, to his current position of Chief Investment Officer. His current responsibilities include oversight of asset management and investment management functions including investor relations, finance, lender relations, cash management, revenue management, and risk management. With a keen eye for strategic opportunities, Drew has successfully managed refinancing transactions exceeding $1 billion in volume and orchestrated property dispositions totaling over $800 million in value. Drew also serves in a critical role on the Horizon investment committee and is tasked with the approval of acquisitions, dispositions, refinances, new construction developments, and other business ventures. Furthermore, he manages Horizon’s captive insurance program and has oversight over capital projects and real estate tax appeals. Drew has also been recognized with Horizon’s prestigious “Above and Beyond” award, which is conferred annually to the company’s most outstanding contributor.
Prior to joining Horizon, Drew gained valuable experience as an analyst at Emeritus Senior Living, the nation’s second-largest senior housing owner and operator, where he was tasked with asset management of the company’s 500+ property portfolio. During his tenure, Emeritus acquired or assumed the management of more than 150 additional properties before ultimately merging with Brookdale Senior Living in a $2.8 billion transaction in 2014. Drew also held previous roles in real estate development with Conformity Corporation and Pursuit Group, boutique urban infill developers based in Charlotte, Drew’s hometown.
Drew graduated with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Kenan-Flagler Business School, also earning a minor in urban planning. During his college years, Drew also studied abroad at Universiteit Maastricht in Maastricht, Netherlands, completing coursework in the School of Business and Economics. Drew is an avid Tar Heel fan and supporter of the UNC Alumni Association, having served as president of the Seattle Carolina Club from 2012 to 2018.
Drew resides in Kenmore, Washington with his wife, Jenny, and their daughters Carly and Emma. When not analyzing financials or visiting Horizon’s properties, Drew enjoys travel, visiting family and friends throughout the country, cheering on his North Carolina Tar Heels, exploring Washington state’s wineries, and supporting his daughters’ burgeoning sports careers and extracurricular interests.
