Reno, NV—Horizon Realty Advisors, a Seattle-based owner, developer, and operator of conventional multifamily and student housing, has broken ground on a new multifamily development in Reno, Nevada: The Edison. Conveniently located near downtown and the University of Nevada, Reno, The Edison will consist of 232 luxury apartment homes, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom floorplans. The first phase of construction is expected to become available for occupancy in December 2023.

Much of the building’s energy needs will be offset by a 200kw solar array on the roof, and 25% of the property’s 213 parking spaces will have electric vehicle charging available. Residences feature highly efficient Energy Star appliances, LED lighting, and low-flow plumbing to minimize water usage. The building goes well beyond code requirements, incorporating energy-efficient envelope and insulation ratings, reducing hot/cold air leakage and by extension, the need to generate additional heat and A/C.  In addition, construction has utilized local products and materials wherever possible to minimize shipping and transportation distances, helping keep lifecycle energy costs as low as possible and reducing the project’s overall carbon footprint.
